Halo 3 Approaching

Halo 3 AwesomeThis Friday, most people will be getting excited about the coming weekend and leaving work. Possible vacations, trips to the movies, or just sleeping-in will be floating in the minds of the millions who are commuting on the impacted Southern California freeways. But at a certain office in Orange County, there will be a group of well-trained individuals, dishing out the biggest whooping they can possibly imagine.

Armor Games is taking on fellow Flash gaming website Kongregate, in a Halo 3 game of epic proportions. Although Kongregate doesn’t know how epic it is, we are essentially in the mindset that this will ba an “end to the Return of the Jedi“-style attack. Since Kongregate has been secretive as to who their last two players are (Chris and Greg have been leaked), we basically feel like we are taking on much more than we can anticipate (which we probably are). These guys look pretty good.

Each team has picked three maps and three games, meaning we are playing a total of six matches. Even if one of the teams dominate we will continue to play all six games, just because we know it will take 2 hours to figure out how to set up the games. In the event of a tie there will be a sudden-death match, which both team Kong and AG have agreed to. Here are the matches that have been chosen:

+ Snowbound – Slayer

+ Narrows – Team King

+ Valhalla – VIP

+ The Pit – Team King

+ High Ground – Slayer

+ Isolation – Rockets

+ Sand Trap – CTF (In case of Tie after game 6)

We are pretty sure that victory is inevitable, but Kongregate has to have something up their sleeve. If all else fails, we always have the power of heart.

Explosions Ahoy!

Argent Bursting!

Argent Burst finally launched today! Rocking to the beat of EON, this fast-paced game features 50 levels and a few fun extras.

An interesting feature in this defender is the use of a combo engine to determine your final score, instead of a set score system. So the better you combo and keep up the beat, the better you will do!

Protect your turrets, and go crazy! Enjoy a lot of particles.

Cattlepult nearing completion - and Mind Bender: WOW

Cattleult will be done in the next few days by my reconing, which will be nice, as it leaves me the second alf of this month to do another game. I’ll email the final version of the editor along with some premade levels for you guys to play to Dan tonight, its really turned into a Bloons with far more depth, and you can get some really awesome puzzles in its 15 by 15 grid, so I hope people  have fun with it.
Also, when playing wit Portal: The Flash version, having played a pre release version of the real Portal, it didnt hit me with the wow factor that it seemed to hit everyone else with, it was still excellent, but it was still in the mould of a much larger experience. Luka’s Mind Bender, however, hit me with that wow factor. It was incredible. Although Jumping was kind of hyper sensitive, I feel this added to it - it became skill based as well as puzzle based. It was an awesome experience.

Space Lasers: back in the green zone.

My code finally works! Ding dong the trig is dead. May it die in a fire! Joy upon joy into infinity. Everything works as it should. Beams are reflected at the correct angles, filters change the color of a beam but maintain its trajectory, and splitters send the beams into a flurry of different angles. All that’s left is a collision detection algorithm for bouncing elements off of asteroids, but that’s crazy easy, yo. Crazy easy.

Now I finally get take off my sport jacket, don my red sweater vest, slip into a comfy pair of Tasmanian bunny slippers and ease back into my armchair of desire with a bowl full of Lucky Charms and a piping hot cup of Joe. At least, that’s what it feels like to FINALLY use this expensive Wacom tablet for the first time in 3 weeks. I’m back in art, baby, and it feels GREAT! Like putting on an old jock strap. Constrictive at first, but comfortably protective after a few laps around the endzone.

As promised, here are all of my whiteboards for those aspiring programmers/artists to muse over. As well as a preview of the artwork for ‘Space Lasers’… or.. ‘Lasers in Space’… I dunno. I’ll come up with a name by next week. And with luck, the game will be finished by then too! Don’t mind the lack of color. I still need to come up with a decent color scheme.

Lighting Up ‘The-9′

Our good friend Jared Riley over @ Hero Interactive made a game called ‘Light Sprites‘ that we were honored to be a part of. The games creativity and style pushed it to #3 on ‘Yahoo’s’ The-9.

I Admit It

Particles PictureOkay, I have a problem. I cannot help it, and I am admitting it now. I am ready to tell my friends, family members, and the Flash community. Here it goes…I have a particle addiction *sigh*.

Wow, that was a lot to get off my chest. But for the past three days, I have been working on a game that comprises of nothing but shooting particles at each other. Burst (working title) fits it’s name well, because there are about 100-200 particles shooting across the screen at any given time.

I usually manage to sneak particles into the rest of my games, or even center particles in the game (for example, Ellipsis or Spin Doctor). But this game is going to be climax of the particle engines I have been making. This game can get nuts, and I can’t wait to release it in the coming days.

Just a friendly reminder!

Guitar Hero on South ParkSouth park will be lampooning Guitar Hero tonight! Set those Tivos!
