I’ll keep this short, as Johns excellent post deserves some more time near the top of the blog, but this week in my spare time after working hours (Need I say I enjoy what I do?) I’ve been tinkering with he SHIFT2 Level editor. Level editors (both using and making them) are probably the best thing about anything in a video game for me, but how much do they mean to you people? Comment reply your opinions of level editors for games – Do you like them? Do you not bother with them? I want to hear your thoughts.

Love them. Every game I make has a level editor, even if it’s not shown to the public.
I LOVE Level Editors. They are a REALLY big selling point in a game, online or console. I Usually spend quite a bit of time on them, and would LOVE to see you put a Level Editor in Shift2. That would make the world complete!
I love level editors. When I really love a game, I’ll go back and play some levels to challenge my friends with.
Smash Bros is a good example of how a level editor can transform a whole game.
Yes I was going to mention Smash Brothers – not only is the level editor a welcome addition, but it’s wha theyre doing with it community wise is what lends it the Nintendo sparkle :p
Level editors rock!!! Would be great to make a Shift 2. If ya do make it have a story rather then just a bunch of levels and a level editor mode please.
SSBB ya,Its a good game,Let alone the LE.
Its fun to make you’re own level,But it its too hard,Or too basic,Its not fun.
I would say hold down Shift or something and then you get white/Black.
And power ups would be cool too.
I have to be honest.I rarely ever use a level editor.
Timesplitters future perfect had an awesome level editor.
Online games get flooded with loads of crap though… You’d have to have a decent rating system. Nutty McNuts was an ok one…
How about the ‘Halo 3′ level editor? You guys every try and flip an Elephant?
The Halo 3 Forge mode was awesome, I never did anything too spectacular in it, but my friend Joel made a Halo themed basketball game out of it, impressive stuff.
Level editors always get me excited for games. Some times they give me the most re playability. The first one I ever used was Build for Duke 3D. Since then I’ve latched more onto console editors (Time Splitters, Far Cry, Halo, Tony Hawk, ect.) I just started tinkering with the Crysis editor, helping make maps for my buddies Blood Money Mod.
So yeah, I’m a fan of level editors.
If you do, and make an Online Database for it, like John did in BRV, make sure to let us search by:
Name (Creator)
Rating (out of 5)
Popularity
It’s too bad that John didn’t put in a search by name. I couldn’t find my own level! Not to sound rude, just some constructive criticism.
Never use them.
I never use level editors. Building my own levels just isn’t my thing, I want them prebuilt for me. For example, the ever-popular Line Rider has never interested me in the slightest.
The only good thing I find about level editors is the community aspect. I can log on to a game and play lots of great maps made by other people.
never use them might once in a while but not really
Level editors are teh pwnzor
this game is okay, portal is MUCH BETTER
I really like level editors. If you give game players a chance to edit (create) their own levels it is always very useful and will make your games more attractive to a wider public.
Действительно, как говорится – Без пользы жить – безвременная смерть.
BION I’m impesresd! Cool post!
