SHIFT Level Editor Released - Earn $$$!
SHIFT Editor 1.1I’m proud to announce the release of the full-featured Level Editor for SHIFT 2! With this editor you can generate codes and playable levels to be included in SHIFT 2. And thanks to the generosity of Armor’s Main Man Dan, you could earn big bucks for your work! - Details at the bottom.
Here are some basic instructions to get you started.
- Check out the sample levels - these will explain a lot to you just by looking at them.
- Once you have a sample level open, preview and play it, then return to the editor.
- In the editor you can build your level with the tools at the bottom of the screen, these include everything you need to make amazingly awesome SHIFT levels.
- To Rotate the level (to give yourself a better idea of how it will play while still in the editor, press the Right and Left Arrow Keys.
- To Rotate the item you are currently using (such as spikes) press the Up and Down Arrow Keys.
- You can link keys to doors and switches to ‘CheckSpace’ in the sidebar which appears on the right hand side.
- Give it a go! - you’ll learn more about it by trying than by reading my rambling attempt at instructions :p .
Here’s the lowdown on getting paid for your designs.
Using the attached SHIFT editor, you design and build 4 quality levels and save the generated level codes in a text ( .txt) document using Notepad or your operating system of choice’s alternative.
Once you have 4 levels made and stored in this txt file, send them as an email over to me at tony@armorgames.com for me to look through along with your name, age and contact email if it’s not the same as the one you are using.
Here’s the interesting bit. If I decide to include one of the levels from your pack of 4 (or up to 4 of them if they rock :p) then you get paid $50 via Paypal.
You also get your name included in the credits of SHIFT2 as recognition that you contributed - Rock on!
There are some things to take into consideration however, if i suspect any foul play (copying level designs from others etc) then I reserve my right refuse to use and/or pay for it - so make sure you only use your own work. Payment will be sent via Paypal, so make sure you have access to an account if you’re included. These rules may be changed at any time to account for arising issues but I’ll do my best to be fair, so don’t worry.
Spread this around to as many people you know, I want tonnes of cool levels 
Send it to 5 people - you will have a lucky day.

Send it to 15 people - your fondest wishes will come true!

The rotating doors all work, but the exit point does not, since you don’t need it to yet - once you get to the door you can consider the level complete

I’m having problems: I can’t test my levels and there’s no text on any of the menus.
Oh wait, I couldn’t test because I didn’t specify an entry point. But there’s still no menu text!

How do you open the Editor? I clicked on the link,Pressed Open,Went into Win-Zip, And like a bunch of Boxes come up.
Jeff m’lad, try using a free alternative to winzip called 7Zip, it’s what I use and the file is fine for me, so it’s worth a shot. It’s also much less bloated than winzip and usually faster.

guys I got a problem.. I cant open the level editor… I’ve downloaded the shockwave flash player.. an doesnt work.. so anyone here can gimme a link for a program that DOES work plz??

Use a program such as 7zip to open the zip file it comes in, then use whichever web browser you play flash games in to open the swf file, hope this helps
Cool. I made a level. Ill work on another 3 if I can be bothered. I doubt ill have mine picked but im bored. Even if I do im only 13 so I cant get the money,

So will we still be able to run levels from the level editor in shift2
does this work on macs? i can’t get it to work. i clicked on the link and it downloaded. then i found it in finder but it wouldn’t open. what program do i open it in?
it dosent work for me…. when i open it and click on the arrowa it frezzes

PS : For all of you who have trouble downloading, opening and/or using the editor, here’s what you’re supposed to do (and it does work on Macs) :
-download the file
- you may have to extract its content since it is zipped (that is, just drag the “SHIFT-EDITOR” file out to some other place, although it is automatically done on Macs because Macs are better =) ). As Tony proposed, you can also use a file extractor such as 7zip.
-It is a .swf file, like all flash games, so just open it with any web browser that has Flash Player as a plugin (most of them do).

i want to make a level… but im have some trouble, do i need a program of some sort? please help me somebody, when i open it i get a bunch of words, sorry to be so stupid

Well I want the game out sometime in March, so as for deadlines, it’ll be before then :p
for those who dont understand i made it a bit simpler:
1st:download
2nd:unzip using winzip 7zip or any other unzippy thingys
3rd:zip it to desktop
4th:click it (ofcourse)
5th:choose select a program
6th:choose internet explorer, firefox ect.
So if you don’t like the levels, do you just not reply? I sent an e-mail a few days ago, and have not gotten a reply back is all.

Say.. when i try to open it it gets a bar at the top of my screen. You arn’t forcing me to download anything besides the level editer, or remotely controling my computer are you?
Also, When I click the editor icon that pops up, it says i have to choose from a list, It recomends the internet but i have no clue what its askikng for. Help?

Is the arrow on the exit point supposed to point to the direction of gravity when exiting (floor)?
Here’s some answers for you folks.
1. I’ll do best to reply to as many submissions as possible, I’ve layed through 80 percent of those submitted so far, and theres some good ones, but right now its just not within my time restrictions to reply to everyone, I’ll do my best though.
2. There is no malicious software or Trojan Horses with this download, if you experience warnings etc, it’s either IE being too cautious, or the malware was there to begin with.
3. The arrow on the door indicates which way you have to be standing to exit. DOn’t worry if you’ve missed this point though, when I play through your levels and see its the wrong way round i just flip it to correct it.
4. Thanks for posting the guide to opening the file for those who were having difficulty

I opened with IE, but I had this message:

No. All you need is flash player from Adobe.com
Then you can use that to watch it or watch it using Internet Explorer.
