SHIFT

SHIFT was released last week by Tony and its gone on to receive some of the best reviews I’ve ever read. In addition, it earned the #1 spot on Newgrounds, which by all standards is the main authority on ‘Whats Hot’ in the flash Game and Animation scene.

SHIFT number 1

Congratulations Tony on making an amazing game! For everyone who enjoyed playing it, keep your eyes posted for a sequel.

Fantastic job Tony! You’re the best!
Looks like I was beaten to the punch on the blog post, I was trying to get the editor looking good enough to post a screenie beforehand, but I suppose a little waiting won’t hurt anyone :D
Thanks Dan, it’s always nice to get congratulations on a job well done :D
Also everyone expect some other cool projects that Dan has me working towards - Big things are just around the bend :D

I wrote a review and rather wanted a response, I assume because there were so many that you missed mine. But I was very curious so I will paste it here, hopefully it will get a response :D

“This was very very well executed.

However, be honest, did you really think of this idea? The reason I ask is because it is the exact concept which this guy was handing out for free:

    http://www.squidi.net/three/entry.php ?id=1

It’s fine if you did use his idea, but I’d like you to be honest and say you did.

Otherwise this is just a huge coincidence :)”

Like I said I’m not accusing you of anything, it is just a very big coincidence. The main reason I ask is because you said in the comments you came up with it, and I was wondering if that’s 100% true ;).

You exectued the game far better then that guy ever explained though so it’s an amazing peice of work.

    Cool

Eep I’ve responded to that question so many times in the last 3 days it’s almost unhealthy - here’s the last time.

I had neither played Yin Yang or seen Squidi’s 300 design pages before making SHIFT.
The concept is my own, and while striking a resemblance to Squidi’s work, it ws not inspired by it, I’ve spoken to him and we’ve both resolved the matter in a friendly, civil way with no hurt feelings either side.

Thanks for the question, and if anyone else asks it please direct them here :) -Tony

    Good lord, awesome game!

Nice idea! You should start thinking of developing something like this for the nintendo DS for example!

  6. Matt on February 8th, 2008

Heh I’m sure there were no hurt feelings since he was giving away the concept :D

    Cool freaky co-incidence though :)

I read the ‘Negative Space’ post on ‘Squidi.net’ and to quote the author

“In order for this idea to truly be represented, destructible environments are required”

We have no destructible environments in ‘SHIFT’, and the idea of a silhouette is as old as cheese. If people want to say their are similarities, then I would agree, but to say ‘Tony’ ripped off the idea is completely illogical and false.
