Tony (9:40:50 AM): its indestructoDay today
Tony (9:41:27 AM): 2 years ago today i uploaded itank and submitted ot the armor contest

Tony’s other child, Indestuctotank, turns 2 years old today.  He’s so overwhelmed with emotions that he managed 8 grammatical errors in only two lines of typing!

He made it a LONG time ago for an Armor Games game development contest and it did tremendously well.  He then went on to win more of our contests, and then eventually become a full-time game developer for Armor Games!  Since then he’s developed in-house titles like Shift and Shore Siege.

Cheers Tony!  Can’t wait to see a third, and no AE doesn’t count.

Windows Vista - Haiku Challenge

Every single update I’ve applied to my Dell Desktop running Vista has resulted in crashing the system. The updates have NEVER installed correctly and I’m always forced to do a system restore. Instead of throwing my PC off the roof, I decided to write a Haiku. Enjoy!

Vista, Why O Why?
Install the upgrade, You CRASH!!!!!
Return to Sender!!!

I challenge all those who are frustrated with Vista to come up with your own Haiku and leave it in the comments.

At the COB today I will choose my favorite and the person will WIN a free 5-pack of stickers and your very own Ball Revamped Squishy.

Bunkers Preview

bunkersprev

Hey everyone,

Joey and I have been working on this game for quite a while and we’re really getting into the nitty-gritty of testing and balancing the game at the moment.  But for now, we have a few screenshots of the gameplay.  The gameplay is very cannon-shooting-other-cannons, but the game is all real-time in-rounds so you have to keep aiming, shooting, and defending yourself as you go.  This isn’t turn-based combat!

Here are a few screens:

We’ll have this thing out in the coming days, so stay tuned.

Also, we won’t call it Bunkers.  We’ll find something better to name it :).

Just wanted to say it was great to meet a bunch of aweseome developers and portals this last weekend. Here’s a link to the photos we took.

Open Doors 2 Walkthrough

First off, it was awesome meeting Ozzie Mercado this weekend at Flash Game Summit. For those not in the know, Ozzie is the guy behind this fun and challenging puzzle series.

With that out of the way, here are some videos that I made to serve as a walkthrough. I was not trying to get gold moves on levels, although I did get it on some (and some are obvious from the video even if I did make a mistake or two). I’ve since gotten gold on all but 1 level.

Cross-ups, meaty attacks and two in ones, oh my!

sfiv

I spent a lot of time in the arcades as a kid. There were these Sunday sessions where you’d pay a whopping $12 and got about 4 hours of free play on all the machines in the building. It was an institution for myself, my brother and friends. I toyed with the fancy light gun games of the time but I spent a large majority of my time on the most crowded machine. Street Fighter 2.

Fifteen or so years later and I’ve got Street Fighter IV to chew on. I went into it saying to myself “hey, you know SF, you’re not bad at it at all. Those hours in the arcades and the weekends of hiring Super Nintendos just to play it have given you a pretty damn good idea of what you’re doing”.  Turns out I was so so wrong.

After watching this video, I discovered there’s a whole other level to SF that I’ve missed completely. Apparently most of this stuff is somewhat applicable to SFIV as well. Cross ups, meaty attacks, two in ones, reversals; all in the list of this secretive underlying level of play that I was oblivious to. I understand now what defines a “good” player more so than I did before.

So diving back into SFIV, demoralised and downtrodden over my discovery of this new higher level of ability, I expected to get my rear end handed to me on many occassions and I did. Even though I play Ryu a lot and you spend 90% of your time holding the opponent at bay, but I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent with my neck bent at an odd angle, spread eagle with a large Russian wrestler’s sweaty mits wrapped around my midsection.

Seems practice might be the only way I’m going to get there, but for the moment online play is just a wash for this aged warrior. Any tips?

Office Spider Follow-up

wolf2

A couple Fridays ago we found a spider in the office and decided to ask you guys about it.  Being totally ignorant about types of spiders, it was only fitting that we asked our community (who probably has dealt with more spiders in their time) to figure out the make and model year of the spider.

Probably within a few minutes we got our first answer back, and for the most part everyone agreed.  So we decided to name it after our first ID’er, UberDead49.  Thanks to your help we can now be more careful about these Wolf Spiders instead of shooing them into cups with our hands.  I didn’t know they bite.  Good to know.

Now that we’re done playing with spiders, we hope to move on to more deadly things.  We’re hoping for some sort of snake or land shark next.

UI Programming Is Serious

(This picture is small, click on it to see larger)

Joey and I are still working on our “Bunker Shooting Other Bunkers” game, but I just wanted to post the semi-finished store as it stands today . It’s a fairly large amount of info to squeeze into a single screen (720 x 400) and we’re pretty happy with it.  Buy items from the center column and then organize at will to give your bunkers the weapons and defensive items you want.

The weapons in the game will correspond to the weapons on this page making it much easier to remember what is what.  Also icons follow you throughout the game to give you further assistance in choosing and placing weapons.

Flash 10 is giving us a hand in 3d transitions as well, check the game out at the end of the month!  We’ll update with some in-game screenshots soon!

The Results are In!

A few weeks ago we asked our users to participate in a survey. The response was tremendous and it has given us a ton of helpful information. One of the questions that we asked was “What is your favorite game”. Here is how our community responded.
