Hello Crush the Castle fans!

The King is looking for some much needed feedback on all things Crush the Castle. Improvements, additions, subtractions, multiplcations, etc.  The King values each and everyone of your comments (good and bad), and looks to the future of the crushing castles.

  1. some kind of zoom function… letting you view the entire area… from catapult/trebuchet to the target… so you can sorta more accurately guage distance and power required…

  2. Would love to see more building elements/People. Have the versions of castles shared match the version built on someone’s copmuter. Nothing more frustrating getting something to work on your computer and then share it and have it not work.

    Crush the castle is one of my favorite games other than Krin’s games. I always like to crush the different set ups of castles.

  4. I agree with cmptrgeek01 in that new elements would be good and one of my suggestions is a pre-built archway. The top could have indents 10-20 pixels so we could place floors and walls. I am not sure of the exact geometry but will work on it in autocad.

    We also need a wench for the characters! And of course, my favourite, the Court Jester, built the same as the princess with a funny hat so we could flip him around a bit. The Princess is the easiest to flip!

    There are other comments to make, so much to do, so little time!

    I’ve been a fan of this game for quite a while, especially of building custom castles. I started writing my suggestions for a new version of CtC and I guess I had a lot to say because it got pretty long. I don’t really want to post something that big here so please check it out at:

    Below is a much more condensed version, with just the main points. Please see the file at mediafire for details and explanation of each point. Here’s the bare bones of it:

    Suggestions on how to augment and improve the map creator of Crush the Castle:

    - Add new building elements such as a half circle arch and a spire (an isosceles triangle). Preferably two of each – one large, one small.

    - Change the building materials menu so that it can scroll in and out. This will open up a lot of room.

    - Bring back access to the raw code. This will make many long time builders happy. Ideally you could have both access to code and the ability to create links.

    Here are a couple of major changes to consider:

    - Add the ability to rotate pieces. This would drastically change things but could bring the building experience to a higher level.

    - Add the ability to change the length of floors and walls. This would really add to the creativity of building. A pieces length could be changed by clicking and dragging the edge.

  6. Tris – I read your document on your other thread and you have summarized it quite well here. Play demolition 2 and you will see what Joey has implemented with rotating and element sizing but, it seems to lag a bit. Rotatable wedges are okay but why not the full arch albeit, like the turret, it may cause issues.

    Besides the fact that of over 300,000 castles built in the shares, most have been stolen and either resubmitted or bastardized so they fail. Nobody should be able to edit a level in the shares and they should only be able to come to the PP to borrow a level for improvement if possible. So, I am saying, no editing in the shares!

  7. I love this game Joey I have been building castles for a long time, I like to think I am pretty good at it.
    One of the main things for me is the ability to edit the code that is one thing that has kept me interested for so long.

    If being able to rotate is too difficult, I would even settle for being able to make a piece longer or shorter.

    I would like to build with arch’s, Round Stones, and land mines or even just regular bombs that explode when touched. It would be great to see a falling castle fall onto pre-placed bombs. As far as characters a CourtJester would be good too.

  9. Oh yeah Joey – I forgot to tell you that some people can use the elements to make unacceptable foul language in their so called “castles”. I have seen many. Albeit you are good at editing the titles, you have no idea about what is going on in the game. If you had titleship of the game without editing properties, if someone posts an inappropriate stage/game/level, you know who they are and can “crush them”.

  10. Sorry for hogging the stage but, one of the nice things about the CtCPP forum is that we can describe how the castle is to be crushed and by what ammunition. Some people in the shares when they have actually built a legitimate castle, will put the ammo in the title.

    And, a voting system that actually works in the shares or in the CtCPP thread would be very good for the game. Two words: “Great” and “Bad” Or, in keeping with the Armor points, “Wood”, “Stone”, “Gold” and don’t let them exit the game without voting. At the end of each month, dump all the wood levels…

  11. Well, seeing that I have multiple suggestions I think I might just make a list.

    1. Make your own “Campaign”. It will be a short adventure of maps you made. Also, it would be nice to not let people use explosives on maps that want you to use stones.

    2. Rag doll objects. Not walls or things, like rubbery hay under a building to make walls bounce a little to keep it moving.

    3. A way to scroll through the map would be nice.

  12. I like your ideas Jesse especially the make your own campaign idea. That is brilliant! That would make CtC3 even more unique!

  13. I am using other people’s suggestions on this post as well as mine but really, Jesse has hit an interesting concept that needs to be explored.

    We could build our own campaigns with limited weapon selection as per castle difficulty. The campaign issue would have to be a save feature in the editor thus that when we finish it, it could be shared. Now CtCPP and the original CtC games recognized wins so, these share campaigns would also need to understand that concept.

    Imagine – multiple people building empires to be destroyed (or not depending on your skill) and you now have a skill game!

    The spin offs are huge, as we could enter different types of weaponry for each campaign consisting 5 to 10 posts.

    There would need to be an actually working rating systme and at the end of each month, the top campaigns could be presented.

    In no cases, these designs cannot be edited by others as they are now in the shares which is a freaking joke!

  14. One way to resolve castles that fail immediately is to monitor a few things:

    1. Check to see that there are characters in the game. If not, do not allow them to be put in the shares.

    2. If a “win” is scored before the trebuchet is activated, (which is basically a fail), do not allow the game to be shared.

    This will eliminate at least 50% of the present games in the shares.

    This is for the CtCPP Custom Castle Community:
    I read the feedback left so far and I think I have a few good suggestions that everyone will like. Sorry if I suggest too many.

    Add a few new backgrounds such as a small island in a lake or a moat. Have the wood and people float on the water while everything else splashes and sinks. Yeah! Maybe muddy ground where anything falling will plop and stick.

    Add a few new armamnets such as any of the following traditional trebuche missles:
    ..Sharp wooden poles or darts
    ..Casks of Burning Tar
    ..Pots of Greek Fire
    ..Dung
    ..Dead bodies
    Maybe fire can be an option for all armaments. Burning dead bodies…Cool!

    Allow the tool palette to auto-hide on the left side of the screen giving more room for castle building.

    Add a long span bridge element to connect different towers of a castle. It should fall apart when hit.

    Add a small quicksand pit to the tool palette that we can place in the landscape and things slowly disappear into it.

    Add animals to the tool palette. I would love to lay a flaming dung bomb on a pasture full of goats. I’ll make this my one must HAVE feature. LOL

    No ads once a player logs in. I usually zoom my browser window 150% to see only the CtC window anyway.

    A few more thoughts: stained glass winmdows that shatter when hit, rolling landscape, children, men on horseback, suits of armor that resist some punishment, long pikes (sharpened spears) that bodies will be impaled on, sandbags, cistern or water tank that breaks open and spills out when hit, sporadic thunderstorms with random lightning, craters and flying dirt from impact of missles, and on and on.

  16. One thing that was nice about the original CTC game was that the weapon you chose when you first played the level was the same weapon that showed up if you hit reset. This is because some people make castles that are specific to certain weapons. I would like to see this feature in the new pack if possible.

    BTW Joey, if you put out a beta, either post the link here or invite some of the Master Builders’ Guild (yes, we have a separate web page for this purpose) to test and save levels. Trismegitus23, the maker of Tribute on your second CTC game is one of them and his critique of the game on this comment page is basically a compilation of our thoughts.

    As for the teaser video, the Wizard will need magical powers such as, if you put a small stone in his glass, the level get’s nuked!!! Just a thought…

  17. In the original ctc there was no online i think that you sould be able to make a castle (wich you can) and post it so people can defete it. Also you should be able to rank up and each time u rank up you get more elements and stones for battle

  23. Okay – as the Beta version of CTC2 disappeared before I finished, I will have to post my comments here and probably on your CTC comments page.

    The trebuchet seems to be too strong and probably should be moved back.

    Part 2 of the level, typo “defeaned” should be deafened.

    You have another typo in the messages with “pogress” – should be progress.

    On the “From Above”, the trebuchet overthrows the target alot.

    Positives: Love the new format, the new characters and weapons and building materials. The 3-D effect is also cool.

    As for the time bomb and the detonater bomb, they are just about the same and I suggest you dump the time bomb and use the detonator bomb as it is more fun. Albeit, I never made it thru the game as it was pulled.

    Some of the regulars in the Players Pack will be very disappointed that you did not post the Beta url when it was available. They have been the mainstay of the game and as I have noticed briefly in your level shares, much is the same crap as in the shares for CTC1 with plenty of fails and as well, you are allowed to save levels without people! Or, with all the people dead before you get back to the trebuchet! However, on a positive note, it looks like people cannot steal levels and mess them up so that is a good thing.

    At any rate, I think you should post Beta2 on the players pack thread and I guarantee you that you will get some real positive feedback on the game as most of them offered feedback on your first CTC as well as your second.

  26. We will be using this thread for positive comments on CTC2 if you don’t mind Joey.

    We would be appreciated that you hold the camera on the castle for a longer time during the initial view so we don’t have to scroll back to look at it again as that function is very slow.

    Secondly, could you zoom out away from the trebuchet so that we can see the arc of the weapons?

    Thirdly, there is a right-click function for full screen which doesn’t work – either make it work or disable it.

    Thanks again for implementing the suggestions from this forum into the new game. We are just getting used to the new format and it has endless possibilities for castle building. You are once again, the master of disaster!!!

    PS – Are you using Blit technology in the new version?

  27. I think its a good game, but it needs to improve on new things. Like getting more charecters to crush, new walls and other props. But al in all, this new game has benn very good and exiting.

  28. Well i think that the game is great so far.. i am also new to this website as an registeree but i have played here before and i like the game in general.. I think though there should be a wide range of multiple weapons to choose from not just a catapult but maybe a cannon.. or a crossbow but not only that but instead of having to customly build building theirs should be som already custom built towers that you can choose from.

  30. CTC is far over one of the greatest flash creations ever. In my humble opinion. Harder crushing,when needed, block some of the weapons, for harder crushing. Larger castles, without the annoyng bugs when there is much thing on the screen. Also, maybe some kind of cement, to enharder the structures, and make the crushing moar hardcore. maybe not lil’ tombstones, but bodies, smashed ones, that don’t interfere on the crushing to much, and the more it crushes, more the corpse gets destroyd, to the poit that it kinda dissapear.
    Also, when something like wood or rock get’s crushed, the debris should stay there.
